Workshop geared for land management

A land management wildlife workshop will be held in Gaskin on Sept. 15. This workshop is hosted by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, National Resources Conservation Service and the University of Florida Extension Service.

The workshop is on Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Lunch will be provided free of charge but you must preregister by Sept. 9, 2011. To register contact the DeFuniak Springs NRCS office @ 850-892-3712 x 114

The workshop will include:
Plant ID Walk – learn to identify native plants and trees important to wildlife
Timber Management – Learn about longleaf pine management (Stoddard/Neal)
Pond Management – Learn about pond management for fish ponds
Prescribed Burning – Learn about when and how to burn your land
NWTF Programs – Learn about how the NWTF can help you manage your land
Crops and NRCS Programs – Learn about NRCS cost-share programs available

The workshop will be held at the Hester Property. Directions: Take Hwy. 83 North out of DeFuniak Springs 17.6 miles to Hwy. 181 in Gaskin. Take a left on Hwy. 181 and go 5.7 miles and property will be on the right hand side.
