The third Friday in January is Arbor Day in Florida because it is the best time of the year to plant trees and shrubs in this area. The following day on Saturday, January 18, 2020, the Walton Master Gardeners annual tree and plant sale will be held at the Fairgrounds located at 790 N 9th Street (Hwy 83) in DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433. The sale is from 9:00 a.m. – noon; arrive early for the best selection. Cash and checks will be accepted.
Fruit, shade and ornamental trees will be available at bargain prices. In addition, shrubs, vines and berry plants will be sold. All plants are chosen for their ability to do well in local gardening zones. Master Gardeners will be on hand to take gardening questions and will offer information on the care of trees and plants purchased. Money raised will go toward community projects such as scholarships, Habitat for Humanity landscapes, school gardens, public education outreach and others.
Also, the Walton County 4-H program is offering their home-cooked pancake breakfast at 8:00 a.m. in conjunction with the Plant & Tree Sale. Enjoy a delicious hot breakfast and support our youth in 4-H, then browse the excellent selection of plants and take advantage of our educational resources, agents, and Master Gardeners by learning all the ins and outs of the plants you purchased and how to care for them as well as getting all your other pressing landscape questions answered.
