The third Friday in January is Arbor Day in Florida and just in time for this prime planting season, the Walton County Master Gardeners are busy putting the finishing touches on their annual Plant & Tree Sale, which takes place the following day on Saturday, January 19. There is no better source of affordable Florida-friendly, low-maintenance ornamental and fruit trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, vines, ferns, heirloom bulbs and more. The plants available for sale are chosen for their ability to do well in local gardening zones and many of the plants are grown pesticide free.
Also, the Walton County 4-H program is bringing back their home-cooked pancake breakfast in conjunction with the plant sale. Enjoy a delicious hot breakfast and support our youth in 4-H, then browse the excellent selection of plants and take advantage of our educational resources, agents, and Master Gardeners by learning all the ins and outs of the plants you purchased and how to care for them as well as getting all your other pressing landscape questions answered!
The sale is from 9 a.m. to noon (or whenever they sell out) at the Walton County Fair Grounds, 790 N 9th St (Hwy 83). We encourage you to arrive early not only for the pancakes but also to ensure that you get the best selection of plants to choose from. Cash and checks will be accepted.
If you would like additional information or have any questions about the plant sale or other Extension programs, please contact the UF/IFAS Walton County Extension office at 850-892-8172.
