Applications are being accepted for the 2016 Master Gardener training class in Walton County. The Florida Master Gardener Program is a joint endeavor of the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS), Walton County Extension and gardening volunteers.
Classes will begin on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m and will continue each Thursday through March 31 at the Extension Office in DeFuniak Springs. Participants must attend all classes. Classroom and field study will cover basic botany, plant diseases, vegetable gardening, insects, lawn management and landscape design among others. The course is tailored for our area of the state and gardening zones.
Upon completion of the training, students will volunteer a minimum of 75 hours on outreach tasks and earn an additional 10 Continued Education Hours in order to become certified Master Gardeners.
The cost of the training will be $125 and the class will be limited to 15 students.
