Tomato workshop at Walton County Extension Service April 6

March 26, 2010

Hearty variety tomatoes will be offered at workshop.

Purchase tomato plants and learn how to best grow them in your garden

A tomato workshop will be held at the Walton County Extension Office on Tuesday, April 6 from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.  Learn to grow your own tomatoes this year.  Larry Williams, the Horticulture Agent from Okaloosa County, will present a power point program about the successful way to garden tomatoes for this area. Plant selection, growing methods, conditions and care of plants will be covered.

The Walton County Master Gardeners will have tomato plants for sale.  These types are selected for their known reliability for local gardens.  One type is Fletcher, a University of Florida release hybrid, which is particularly hardy and disease resistant.  Other varieties of tomatoes and peppers will be available at reasonable prices.

This workshop is free and open to the public.  Participants are encouraged to bring favorite recipes using homegrown tomatoes for a recipe swap. The Extension Office is located at 732 N Ninth Street (SR 83) in DeFuniak Springs, next to the fairgrounds.  Call 850-892-8172  for more information.
