Choctawhatchee River expected to crest at 18.4 ft. on Monday

Major flooding on the Choctawhatchee River has occurred due to recent heavy amounts of rainfall. The river is expected to crest at 18.4 ft. on Monday, July 8, 2013. The river is expected to remain at a major flood stage through July 12. Recent heavy rains closed many roads along the river and several other low lying areas in Walton over the last week. Fishing is great despite the rainy weather! Choctawhatchee Bay: Lots of large redfish still being caught along with some medium size black drum and sheepshead. Creeks/river: Good bit of catfish being caught since the rain along with redfish and bass along the lower end of the river. Bream are being caught with popping bugs. Fishing is great! Choctawhatchee Bay: Folks are catching a good mix of everything in the Bay. Good bite on big redfish along with trout either big or small, nowhere in between. Also some flounder being gigged. Creeks/river: Shad has been spawning on the river. Folks casting a net for the shad bait and reeling in the bass.
