Live Oak Landing, an RVC Outdoor Destination RV Park in Freeport has been busy this weekend with a unique group of campers called the Skinnie Winnies. What on earth is a Skinnie Winnie? It is a motorhome that is compact and accessible to most everywhere a standard vehicle can travel. The size also makes it popular with the RV traveler who likes to enjoy places off the beaten path not accessible with larger motorhomes. The Skinnie Winnies sport a Mercedes engine and chassis, are built in Germany, and distributed in the U.S. under the name Winnebago/Itasca View and Navion motorhomes.

The popularity of the Skinnie Winnie spawned a special group who share stories, photos and hosts rallies across the U.S. throughout the year. Each Valentine’s Day weekend the group meets at Live Oak Landing in Freeport for some fun and camaraderie. This weekend, 39 rigs arrived to join in on the festivities. This is the group’s seventh year coming to our area and the third year at Live Oak.
