Mike Goodchild, director of the UF /IFAS Extension for Walton County and a Forestry Agent will give a program on his top choices of trees and shrubs for coastal areas.  Homeowners and gardeners in the southern part of Walton County have unique growing issues with wind, salt spray and sand.  The lecture will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the Coastal Extension Branch, located at 70 Logan Lane in Grayton Beach – just north of the 4 way stop off CR283.  This event is free.  Seating is limited; call Cheryl at 850-892-8172 to reserve a place.  Light refreshments will be served.

Soil testing and supplies will be available for $8 and Master Gardeners will be on hand to take gardening questions.  Additionally, plant lists and order forms will be explained for ordering pre-sale plants for the Master Gardener Tree Sale scheduled for Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Fair Grounds in DeFuniak Springs.  Pre-Sale purchases will be ready for pick-up on Friday, January 17 which is Arbor Day in Florida – the perfect time to plant.
