Have lots of tomatoes at home and don’t know what to do? Come to the Fiesta de Salsa. Registration is now open for anyone interested in learning more about using the water bath canning style of preserving salsa. This is a hands-on workshop, expect to be chopping, slicing, and mincing all sorts of veggies. Food safety and recommended sanitation methods will be discussed. Making and preserving salsa is a great way to use local bounty and can even save money.
Participants will learn about growing and selecting vegetables, preparation techniques, and be involved in the canning process.
The canning workshop will be held at the Coastal Branch, 70 Logan Lane, Santa Rosa Beach on Friday, June 9th from 1 -3 p.m. and from 6 – 8 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Walton County Extension office located at 732 N 9th Street, DeFuniak Springs. There is a charge of $15 to cover the material and supplies, plus you will receive a jar of salsa to take home.
