Renovation of popular community restaurant now complete

There is a special place nestled on along State Road 81 in Walton County called Red Bay Grocery. Built on a tried and true basic principle – small town community atmosphere, Red Bay Grocery has been a popular grocery and eatery since it opened in early 2009.

On Jan. 18, 2011, the restaurant took a major hit when a fire broke out in the kitchen exhaust and spread quickly throughout the ceiling and attic space. Many thought the fire was the untimely end to the eatery.

However, some great things are meant to last. With the stockholders and community rallying together to rebuild, Red Bay Grocery is set to reopen on Apr. 20 if all goes as planned.

“We have had a lot of community support,” said Charles Morgan, one of the main stockholders.

The renovations include new wiring, roof, ceiling, concrete walkway and ADA access. The former barbecue area is now a screened-in seating area and the barbecue smoking will be done behind the restaurant.

“The menu will remain for the most part the same, with a few tweaks,” said Dan Chace, the new manager. Thursday all you can eat shrimp, Friday all you can eat ribs, barbecue and full breakfast on the weekends. During the week Red Bay will be preparing breakfast biscuits.

Take a ride up to Red Bay and stop a while… they will be back doing business later this month.

Red Bay Grocery is located in the Red Bay community on State Road 81 in Walton County.
