New Florida record blue catfish weighed in at Choctawhatchee River tournament May 30

A new Florida record weight blue catfish was weighed in during the Choctawhatchee Catfish Roundup tournament in Caryville, Florida on May 30, 2015.

The 3rd annual tournament was hosted by the Ponce de Leon Masonic Lodge #157, and sponsored in part by the Holmes County Tourist Development Council. The proceeds benefitted the Patsy Byrd Memorial Scholarship program. 88 entries competed May 29 and May 30, 2015. Weigh ins were held at the Choctawhatchee River Caryville Landing off of Hwy. 90.

Bill Stewart from Weeki Wachee, Florida weighed in a 68.88 lb. blue catfish. The catfish was also weighed in on second, more official scale to accommodate the large fish which read 69.5 lbs. The fish will be turned over to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for confirmation. This was his eighth tournament competition. Steward said he caught the huge blue catfish near Ebro.

The current Florida record is held by James Mitchell who also caught a blue catfish on the Choctawhatchee River weighing in at 64.50 lbs. on Aug. 4, 2008.
