Two person teams reel in the big reds
The gloomy weather had no impact on the best turnout ever for the Eighth Annual Nick’s Redfish Roundup Tournament on May 11, 2013. Sixty-three two-person teams competed for $10,000 in prize money in the popular annual redfish tournament on the Choctawhatchee Bay. Payout of $5,000 for first place went to Jake Matney of Walton County and his partner Fred Myers from Bay County. The competition consisted of two best redfish weights, most spots, smallest two and mystery weight.
A large crowd turned out for the weigh ins as well as vendors from Legendary Marine, Ship’s Chandler, and several others including free massages for the weary provided by Trinity Massage and Bodyworks.
Nick’s provided crawfish and shrimp for the competitors as the weigh ins wrapped up at 5 p.m. Giveaways and live music from the Velcro Pygmies concluded the day’s event.
