Improvements on the way for Cowford Landing on the Choctawhatchee River

October 1, 2020

Walton County is in the contractor bidding stage of making several improvements to Cowford Landing on The Choctawhatchee River. The scope of work includes the construction of a new parking lot, sidewalks, restroom, two overnight shelters, timber boardwalks, and a new floating dock with ADA kayak loading station. New ADA compliant sidewalks and curb ramps will also be constructed as well as drainage improvements including a storm water management system with outfall structure and piping. The work is currently out for bid with hopes of completion in 2021. Click here for diagram of improvements.

Funding for the Cowford Landing improvements comes from a Land and Water Grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and supplemented by the Counties Preservation Fund.

The improvements are part of the Choctawhatchee River Blueway initiative that began in 2011. Click here for Choctawhatchee guide.
