Annual event gives  children opportunity to go fishing with Destin’s finest charters

Harbor Docks Charities is hosting the 18th Annual Take-A-Kid-Fishing Day on Sunday, November 4th, 2012. Last year many area children spent a glorious day fishing aboard 57 of Destin’s finest charter boats.

This year we have 300 openings for kids and chaperones that don’t often get the chance to fish in the beautiful waters around Destin including the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay. Off duty policemen and firemen from Destin and Fort Walton Beach as well as other Harbor Docks Charities Volunteers will be the chaperones on these professional charter boats.

Reservations for this free fishing trip are for children who are 7 to 13 years old and are being accepted until the fishing slots are filled. To make a reservation or get additional information call Harbor Docks at 837-2506 and ask for Jackie, Gina or Becky, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Pre-registration is required.

Teachers who would like to sponsor/chaperone groups from their school should make group reservations no later than Friday October 26th, 2012 to ensure space. There is a chaperone for every 6 children. Reservations will be taken beginning Monday, October 1st. You can call or fax your reservation and include each child’s name along with their parent’s name, phone number, and child’s age. For group reservations, we can fax you the parent release form upon request that will need to be completed by the parent of each child participating.

Early sign-in for the boat assignment will begin at 7 a.m. We’ll meet at Harbor Docks Restaurant on The Big Deck for a breakfast of orange juice and donuts, board the boats at 8 a.m., and return at 12:30 p.m. to receive their fishing rod and reel and enjoy a family fish fry.

Teachers who are interested in volunteering or chaperoning, please contact Jackie, Gina or Becky at Harbor Docks (850) 837-2506 or fax (850) 654-1851.
