Habitat Rx: Five Steps to a Healthy Watershed workshop in Santa Rosa Beach March 20

March 14, 2014

hogtown3Date/Time: March 20, 5:30 – 7:00 pm

Join Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance, UF/IFAS Extension, & Florida Sea Grant for a public workshop – Habitat Rx: Five Steps to a Healthy Watershed.  Do you live in South Walton?  Want to help your community and local environment?  Come learn about your local waterways and how YOU can make a healthy impact.

This workshop will introduce the Habitat Rx program and provide homeowners with resources to improve their landscapes.  Topics will include watershed health and restoration, living shorelines, and invasive species. Learn how you can get involved in your community through projects like oyster reef construction and invasives removal throughout the upcoming year. We are seeking volunteers to contribute labor and/or serve as community leaders in our campaign to educate citizens and remove invasive plant species throughout South Walton.

This program is designed to facilitate stewardship among your peers and encourage homeowners throughout the South Walton area to join in the fight against invasive species.  By signing up for the Habitat Rx program, citizens will be eligible to receive treatment and removal of invasive species, and a replacement native species will be provided at no cost.

Together we can protect and improve our watersheds by learning about and following these five steps: 1) Listen 2) Learn 3) Make Changes 4) Tell A Friend 5) Take Action.  Come take the first two steps and join us at this public workshop!

Location: Bayou Arts Center, 105 Hogtown Bayou Lane, Santa Rosa Beach. RSVP: Cheryl Haney at 850-892-8172 or haneyc@ufl.edu
