Most any day is a great day for fishing. However, a very special day just for the ladies was held on Oct. 12, 2013 at the inaugural Nick’s For Chick’s fishing tournament.

Twenty-seven ladies competed for a variety cash and prizes. Points were accrued for redfish, speckled trout, catfish and ladyfish caught from the Choctawhatchee Bay. There was also a Trash Can Calcutta (combined weight of ladyfish and catfish) that was also included in the prize monies.

First place overall went to Patty Woodard with 38 points, second to Emily Thurman with 36 points and third to Abby Elley with 36 points as well. When there is a tie, a mullet toss competition is held to break the tie. Thurman won the toss.

Abby Elley came in first for the Calcutta division with Thurman coming second and Woodard third.

As always, Nick’s did it up right with gift bags for the contestants, smoked mullet and live music by Taylor Laird. Great camaraderie and fun always on hand at Nick’s Seafood Restaurant!

With the overall great success in its first year, Nick’s plans on hosting it again next year.
