Kids enjoyed fishing for a good cause!

On July 20 and 21, 2013 Nick’s Seafood Restaurant in Freeport hosted their annual kid’s catfish tournament. Area children ages 14 and under participated in the event which boasted 57 entries this year. 100 percent of the $30 entry fee went to local charity Backpacks of Love Foundation.

All of the participants who caught a fish went home with a prize. The grand prize winner, Case Woodard, 13, of Freeport went home with a brand new jon boat donated by Brad and Ellen Everett of Destin. The Everetts were able to purchase the boat at cost from Bass Pro Shops. Woodard’s weigh in was in two categories, biggest single fish weighing in at 4.82 lbs. and heaviest three fish weighing in at a total of 13.17 lbs.  Other prizes included gift cards from Bass Pro Shops, fishing rods, coolers and medals.
