Learn about turpentining at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Feb. 18

As part of Black History Month, Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is hosting “Turpentining in Topsail” on February 18, 2019 from 12 – 2 p.m.  Learn about the Turpentine industry that occurred in the park area during the late 1800s and early 1900s as well as outdoor cooking techniques from that time period.  Participants will get to sample “Swamp Cabbage.” 

Afterwards there is an optional 3-mile walk to see remnants of the turpentining industry remnants within the park.  If you are choosing to participate in the walk afterwards, please come dressed in weather appropriate clothing and in comfortable walking shoes as the walk is on uneven terrain.
