International Coastal Cleanup Day across South Walton area beaches Sept. 21

International Coastal Cleanup is a world-wide event sponsored by Ocean Conservancy.  The organization engages countries across the globe to organize citizens in large cities to small villages in the cleanup of their ocean, gulf, lake and river beaches.

Interested in making a difference? Here are locations where you can participate on Sat., Sept. 31

Camp Helen State Park – Lake Powell 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Join Camp Helen State Park as they participate in the International Coastal Cleanup. This event is sponsored in coordination with the Lake Powell Community Alliance, who are dedicated to protecting this precious resource, Lake Powell. This is the seventh year of participation in the event and to date, over 20,000 pounds of trash have been removed from Lake Powell and its watershed. Sign-in will begin at approximately 8 am, with the cleanup lasting until noon.

What to bring: closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen, grabber, work gloves, water or refillable bottle. Please consider bringing you own boat, canoe, kayak or paddleboard and join the armada of cleanup crews! If you do bring your watercraft, please bring required life jackets, whistle, safety equipment. We will provide: vinyl gloves, garbage bags, data cards, coffee, donuts and water.

Camp Helen is located at 23937 Panama City Beach Parkway, Panama City Beach, FL, just west of the Phillips Inlet bridge on the Bay County and Walton county line. The entrance is south of U.S. Hwy 98. ::MAP::

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park – 9:15 – 11:30 a.m.

Join Topsail Hill Preserve State Park on International Coastal Cleanup Day for a beach cleanup on Saturday September 21 from 9:15 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Help keep the beach safe for the threatened and endangered species that call the beach home by minimizing the impact of marine debris on the beach and in the Gulf.

To register as a beach cleanup volunteer please call (850) 267-8330 and provide your name, email address, phone number and number of people coming.

Located in Santa Rosa Beach, the park is located 1/4 south of U.S. Hwy 98 on western end of Scenic Hwy. 30A.  ::MAP:
