First Day Hike at Ponce de Leon Springs State Park

December 10, 2018

January 1, 2019 @ 9:00 am – 10:30 am

Enjoy a First Day Hike at 9 a.m. January 1 at Ponce de Leon Springs State Park. Meet at the ranger station, then hikers will travel to the trailhead.

Take a stroll down the two trails of the park, Sandy Creek and Spring Run. Each trail will take you through a lush hardwood forest, which provides optimum vantage points for observing wildlife along the 350-foot spring run and Sandy Creek. As well as, a relaxing stroll among a variety of native plant and animal habitat, where you can listen to the relaxing sounds of the flowing stream or conversation of the birds.
This will be a great opportunity to see what effects hurricane Michael had on the Park.
Trail terrain in the park will be near river; exposed roots, bridges and cypress knees.
We will then drive south along SR 81 to hike their newest trail. Here you will see your usual Florida wildlife. This hike will be lead by Fred Provost, the Park Service Specialist at Ponce de Leon Springs State Park.

Expect to see gopher tortoise habitats, cat face trees and don’t trip over the old railroad line.
