Fun houses for Fido to be auctioned for a great cause
The Children’s Volunteer Health Network (CVHN) is kicking off a new fundraiser event Sept. 18-27 at The Village of Baytowne Wharf.
Named Cottages for Canines, the fundraiser will be a scaled down version of the ongoing and popular Cottages For Kids, and will have more than 22 canine cottages built by local builders and community partners.
All proceeds benefit the Children’s Volunteer Health Network, whose mission is to provide free health services to our local kids who cannot afford health care.
One cottage will be raffled and others will have a “buy-it-now” option starting on Sept. 18, in addition to the auction for the remaining cottages held on the evening of Sept. 27. The event will be held in conjunction with the annual Air Dog Competition held at Baytowne Wharf Sept. 25-27.
“We currently have 22 doghouses committed and still have a few we’re waiting to hear from. But, the response we’ve already received has been so positive as the word gets out, we hope this will be an annual event,” said Susan Breeden co-chair of the Cottages for Canines.
There will be volunteers from CVHN on-site each day of the event. Raffle tickets are $5/ea. or $20 for 5.
On the auction day, there will be a wine and cheese party at Lumpy’s in Baytowne Wharf exclusively for the bidders starting at 3:00 p.m., with the raffle drawing just prior to the auction at 4:00 p.m.
The doghouse specifications require that they be built no bigger than what will fit in the bed of a pickup truck, and CVHN will offer free delivery within a 20-mile radius.
The CVHN Mobile Dental Clinic will also be onsite and available for tours.
