Brush fire rages along power lines in South Walton April 10

Update at 6 p.m.: The fire is now contained within Division of Forestry plowed lines around the perimeter. SWFD along with the DOF will be monitoring the area through the evening.

At 4 p.m., between five and six acres are burning north of Nuit Street between Church Street and CR 393.

South Walton Fire District, Freeport Fire Department and Division of Forestry are currently on the scene of a brush fire in Santa Rosa Beach.

All but one of SWFD trucks are on the scene, three Forestry tractors and two trucks from Freeport Fire are working on containing the fire. Thirty personnel in all are currently working the fire.

No structures have been destroyed, and firefighters are located at strategic locations, protecting homes outside the fire’s perimeter.

“We should have it contained soon,” said Sean Hughes, Deputy Chief of SWFD.

    1. Having been close to or actually having a fire on property….and losing a house…this is a frightning experience. Glad they have it under control. Thanks for your timely updates.
