Scottish Christmas celebrations in DeFuniak Springs Dec. 13, 14

The City of DeFuniak Springs Economic Development and Tourism Committee is hosting a Scottish Christmas Festival Dec. 13 – 14, 2013.  The honored clan this year Clan Macleod.  Kick off the holidays off with a traditional Ceilidh (Kaylee) party at 4-C’s BBQ on December 13, 2013, from 6 – 11 p.m.  There will be a Scottish band and open microphone for storytelling and poetry.  Come sample some traditional Scottish grub and be sure to wear your tartan as kilts will abound.

Continue the festivities on Baldwin Ave. on Sat. Dec. 14 between 8th and 10th Streets. Activities begin at 10 a.m. Bring the bairns (children) as there will be games for the weans (small children).  For entertainment you may meet a famous character from Scottish literature, so be sure to bring your autograph book.  Slated to be on stage are The Emerald Coast Pipes and Drums and The Drake School of Irish Dance and others.  In addition, you can check out the clan booths to learn about Scottish Clans and history.  Vendor booths will offer holiday shopping opportunities along Baldwin Ave.  Entertainment moves to Circle Drive at 1  p.m. to view the traditional DeFuniak Springs Women’s Club Christmas Parade.  After the parade, St. Nicholas will be in Opinion Place to listen to Christmas wishes with more entertainment, games, and shopping.  At 5 p.m. the festival closes. Enjoy the Christmas Reflections on Circle Drive with over 40 acres of lights reflected off of Lake DeFuniak.
