Overnight stand up paddle board expedition training and camping at Camp Helen State Park June 28 – 29

gabeIf you have ever wanted to break outside the “SUP box” this is the class for you. Hosted by Gabriel Gray of Walking On Water Paddle Boards, you will learn all the basics for starting an SUP adventure into multi day touring and expedition paddling. This class has been created to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed for being on an adventure away from civilization. An adventure away from civilization. You will learn:

• Future SUP expedition planning that includes weather, mapping, reading currents and more
• SUP safety
• Self rescue/partner techniques
• Leave no trace camping
• First aid tips and up righting a cap sized loaded board
• All gear necessary to make your adventure fun and safe
• Demos and skill tests so be ready to get wet!

When: June, 28th-29th starting at 9 a.m. on Sat. Cost: $100. Snacks, lunch and dinner will be provided. Hot dogs and burgers for dinner and turkey sandwiches for lunch, or bring your own food. Bring a refillable water bottle or camelbak for water as plastic bottles will not be provided. Students receive goodie bags and discounts on gear and boards.

What to expect: 9-12 a.m. class; 12-1 p.m. lunch; 1-3 p.m. water skills; 3-6 p.m. Explore Lake Powell with skills test along the way; 6-8 p.m. set up camp and dinner. We will also do a night paddle with Nocqua SUP lights. Please bring tent, board, dry clothes, bug spray, drybags if you have them, head lamps, PFD.
