After concerns were raised by local fishermen about the inability to fish from the 331 bridge causeway after the construction of the new U.S. Hwy 331 bridge, Walton County Commissioner Comander worked with staff and the FDOT to seek an arrangement whereby the FDOT would allow parts of the causeway to be reopened for fishing.

Due to these efforts, the FDOT District Secretary signed a letter giving the authority for removal of the no parking signs in the area of the relief bridge. In exchange, the FDOT asks that the county execute a maintenance agreement for portions of the causeway near the relief bridge.

The areas opened back up are along the northern end of the southbound causeway, along the east and west side. Signs mark the legal parking areas.
