New recreation area in Marianna on the Chipola River

Come enjoy the introduction of a beautiful tract of public land on Sat., Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Hosted by City of Marianna and Chipola Greenway volunteers, the opening of the Hinson Conservation Recreation Area is  226 acres along the beautiful Chipola River.

Land managers from agencies with responsibility for caring for these properties will be on hand to explain management goals and recreational opportunities. Agencies participating will include Northwest Florida Water Management District, Florida Caverns State Park, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Forest Service, Jackson County Parks and Recreation, Jackson County Public Library, and the Florida and Florida Trail Association.

Pack a picnic lunch and join them in nature walks to explore a very fine piece of riverside natural Florida.  See the Alamo Cave and view Indian artifacts shown by those who found them in this area. Nature based art lessons for children and storytelling will also be on hand.

Long pants and shirt as well as sturdy shoes are recommended.

Directions: From the court house in Marianna go south on Jefferson St. (also S.R. 73) one mile. Look for the Hinson Conservation and Recreation Area sign on the left. Turn left at the sign and stay on the dirt road to the river. Park along the fence.
