Festivities include a parade, children’s activities and live music

It’s carnival time along the Beaches of South Walton and Seaside is the destination for all of the fun and excitement for the entire family. Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler as The Merchants of Seaside host a fun-filled day of Mardi Gras revelry with activities for everyone on Sat., Feb. 26.

The festivities begin at 12:00 p.m., as Abrakadoodle offers children the opportunity to make Mardi Gras-themed projects. Children will be able to make a fun Jester hat and parade baton, along with having their faces painted with the traditional purple, green, and gold colors. At 2:00 p.m., head to the Fifth Annual Seaside KIDS Mardi Gras Parade, featuring the Krewe of Wee-De-Leis. Wear your outrageous costumes to show off your Mardi Gras spirit as you march though Seaside. The parade starts in front of the new location of Seaside KIDS in Central Square, makes its way around through the businesses south of 30A before heading back to the starting point.

Following the parade, the event continues as the Seaside Amphitheater hosts our Zydeco Fais Do-Do, at 3 p.m. Join The Michael Foster Project, as they bring the sounds of New Orleans to Seaside.

The Michael Foster Project’s debut release, “Kick Some Brass” catapulted the band onto the music scene and helped them become the “Best New Brass Band” by OFFBEAT Magazine. The response to this release has triggered innumerable comparisons to the incomparable Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Michael’s work with his group has earned the band recognition by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, as he was recently named their Arts Ambassador. The band often goes into school systems around the south talking to young students about the importance and traditions of jazz music, as well as inspiring them to practice and keep the music alive. Don’t miss this live concert from the Seaside bayou…guaranteed to keep your toes tapping!

The Mardi Gras Celebration and other events in Seaside are made possible by the arts and entertainment fee collected by The Merchants of Seaside. For more information on our community, please visit us online at: www.seasidefl.com or find us on Facebook by searching “Seaside.”
