CAScolorlogoDec 1: Monthly Meeting: Presentation “The Christmas Bird Count 2016.” Learn about the oldest and largest wildlife survey in the world and how you can help. Alan Knothe, biologist and local bird count coordinator, will speak on the history of the National Christmas Bird Count and the origination of our count in Okaloosa County. You will learn how to identify rare and unusual birds and how to get involved. No birding experience is necessary. The actual count will take place on Monday, 19 December.

The meeting will be held in room 130 of the student services building 400 at the Northwest Florida State College Niceville campus. Socializing begins at 6:30 PM and the program at 7:00 PM. Dec 3: Bird Walk. Destin Beaches. Discover gulls, terns and shorebirds with Bruce Purdy, an experienced birder. Meet in the parking area at the SW end of Marler (Destin) Bridge at 7:30 a.m. Wear closed toe shoes and a hat and bring your camera, binoculars and a friend or two. Dec 19: Christmas Bird Count. Participate in the largest wildlife survey in history organized by count coordinator Alan Knothe. Details will be presented at our Dec 1 program meeting or you can contact Alan at (850) 208 1780 and he will assign you to a survey team.
